Composing the sound - the music - of places, objects and experiences
(local authorities, cultural institutions, brands, festivals, architects, set designers, laboratories, companies seeking a living sound signature)
From public spaces to cultural and brand venues, Fred Voisin designs permanent or temporary sound installations that give a place its own voice. Bespoke generative processes, rather than pre-recorded loops, are preferred through to real-time audio synthesis.
For example, Fonocanal (detailed presentation), a permanent sound installation on a bank of the Canal de Bourgogne, continuously plays sounds generated in situ and in real time according to the weather, the seasons and the time of day, and sometimes original recordings celebrating the local area. It was commissioned by the association Ici et là, une poétique du canal de Bourgogne, in collaboration with Voix Navigables de France.
Or Caresses de Marquises, a twelve-hour concert for artificial neural networks for the Nuit Blanche in Paris 2004, broadcast on the canopies of Gare de l'Est (commissioner: Nicolas Frize, Ville de Paris).
Applications
- Generative in situ sound installations, driven by real data (weather, movement, flows)
- Sound identity and scenography for museums, cultural venues, brand spaces
- Performances and interactive devices for events, festivals, inaugurations
- Design of bespoke, evolving, interactive, intelligent sound devices
